Act 2 Scene 1
While everyone else was searching the house, Ronald and I broke down the Madame’s bedroom door. The covers were missing from her bed. A teacup lay on the floor by her night table. No one was in the room, but there were two small bloodstains on the bed, and a few more on the floor. Did you notice anything else unusual about the room, Ronald?
Gesundheit.
Did you find anything of interest while you were searching the Madame’s desk?
No, but I noticed you slipped out of the bedroom while I was looking through it.
That’s right. I went around the corner to the upstairs lounge. Where I used the phone to call the police.
They’ll be here in an hour or so, weather permitting. That said, it would be best if we cleared the air.
Gesundheit… I hope you’re not coming down with anything.
I think I’m coming down with a case of annoyance.
You should see a doctor about that.
As I was saying-
‘Course, it’s none of my business how the got in your annoy, but maybe you ought to be careful where you sit.

I’d like to conclude this charade. I think it behooves us all to determine what’s happened so we can give the police a full story. Then we can get out of here quickly without having to provide any unnecessary details. Since you all have checkered pasts, I trust you’ll agree.
Iona, how long have you been working for the Madame?
I was hired by Mr. Carlisle.
You’re the Madame’s assistant, aren’t you? You pulled all the strings during her séance. The bangs and creaks, the flying pinecones and feathers-
No sir. It was the spirits!
You expect us to believe that?
A dead bird hit me in the back of the head - how am I supposed to throw a dead bird at the back of me own head?
Either you’re working for her, or someone else is hiding in this house.
We’ve searched the whole house, haven’t we?
We may need to search every closet, cupboard, nook and cranny. Anywhere where-
A body could fit.
You weren’t at the seance either.
What does that have to do with anything?
The Madame would need an assistant for her parlor tricks. Someone working in the background.
Knocking the table with their knees and pulling strings, or whatever it is they do?
There were too many things going on that could not have been done by those in attendance.
It’s coming from that direction.
Did you leave anything on the stove?
Smells like bacon and… patchouli.

We reenter the room.
Well… we found out what happened to the Madame.
Danny exits the room.
We now have a murder.
And now… now she’s paid the price!
Let’s all try to calm down.
As I said earlier, it behooves us to resolve this before the police arrive… There is likely only one guilty party, which makes the majority innocent. Therefore, it should suit the innocent to cooperate in investigating this crime. I’d like to interview each of you privately. Also I will be taking a closer look at some of the rooms in this house, in particular, the ballroom, the library, and Madame LaBonza’s bed-
