Act 2 (regular lines) Flashcards
Mir: Those are just rumors
Pavel: How many deaths are you willing to be responsible for?
(to Mir while standing) Maybe we should stop for a while
Mir:…… So we can let them know the truth. So they can take them away with them and show them to the world.
It’s too dangerous now.
Pavel: Do you want to be the next martyr?!
Gabi: We have to Pavel
Mir: Eva?
If I get caught, what will happen to Jana?
Alena: You don’t touch Martin’s things! All you ever did was make fun of him.
(Jana starts to cry)
Jana: Eva!
(comfort Jana) It’s okay, Shhhh
Gabi: My hand’s getting a cramp
What if we die here?
Gabi: Eva!
We could.
Gabi: I know, but I try not to think about it.
(Awkward) But if we did… wouldn’t it be horrible to die… you know… virgins?
Gabi: (shocked) Eva! What if Jana heard you?
I’m tired of worrying about Jana. We’re young, we’re supposed to have fun.
Gabi: “Supposed to’s” don’t matter anymore
You’re right, they don’t. So? Wouldn’t it?
Gabi: Wouldn’t it what?
Be horrible
Gabi: I guess
What if Pavel asked you?
Gabi: He wouldn’t
But what if he did? Do you think about it?
Gabi: I don’t know
(Confession) I think about Miroslav
Gabi: I know!
What do you mean?!
Gabi: The way you look at him
Did he ever say anything to you about me?
Gabi: Once.
(Stand) Really? What?
Gabi: He told me to watch you, that you could write out a page of Vedem faster and neater than anyone else.
He’s not human!
Gabi: He’s driven
(Sit on box, disappointed) I might as well be a boy for all he cares.
Gabi: Boys are strange. My mother told me that once. She said, if you’re interested in one, usually you have to be the one who speaks up.
(Stand) Maybe I will
Gabi: Will what?
Speak up
(Pause)
So?
Gabi: So, what?
You never answered. Do you think about it?
Gabi: We’re falling behind
(Grabs her papers) Do you?
Gabi: Yes…
And?
Gabi: Sometimes I wish he would… ask. But I wouldn’t say yes.
Neither would I
Alena: I found some more paper
(Curt) Thanks.
(you and Gabi finish dancing)
That’s great. Where did you learn it?
Gabi:… and then she’d say, “Just you wait Gabi, when you’re a little older, boys will line up to take you dancing every night.”
My parents were very strict. I mean they loved us but… they’re just old-fashioned.
Alena: Could you teach me that?
What are you doing, sneaking up on us?
