Act 1 Scene 5 Flashcards
Zeus: I can’t believe he did that!
Hephaestus: Prometheus is known to be a bit of a prankster.
Zeus: Well, he has gone to far this time. Giving fire to the mortals! Why, he has given them power itself. What will they need us for?
Hephaestus: You’ve seen those fools down on earth. They’re helpless without us, fire or not.
Zeus: Yes, well, I must now do something to even the score. But what?
Hephaestus: If my skills as a craftsman can assist you mighty Zeus, then I offer them humbly.
Zeus: Can you craft just about anything, Hephaestus?
Hephaestus: My craftsmanship knows no limits. I can make anything you can possibly desire out of any material at all.
Zeus: Can you make a…human?
Hephaestus: (Thinks:) I think so. What kind of human are we talking about?
Zeus: A very special one, indeed! (Excitedly) Not just any human…a woman…the most beautiful woman in the world.
Hephaestus: I like where this is heading.
Zeus: Not just any human…a woman… the most beautiful woman in the world.
Hephaestus: I like where this is heading.
Zeus: And I will have each of the gods bestow her with a gift so that she is a human like no one has ever seen before.
Hephaestus; I’ll get started right away! (Exits.)
(Hephaestus enters, pushing a rolling platform, upon which stands PANDORA, who is covered by a sheet.
Hephaestus: How is this for a start?
