Capulet is distracted by the dancers, and his speech shifts between them and Tybalt.
The incident has serious consequences later in the play. Explain why
Tybalt feels insulted and angry. The next day, he seeks revenge on Romeo for the insult he perceives as Romeo’s fault. When Romeo refuses to fight because he’s married to Juliet, Mercutio fights in his place and is killed. Enraged, Romeo kills Tybalt, leading to his own exile, leading to the final tragedy.
