Landing w/o Hydraulic Pressure
Hint: FLAPS
Landing without hydraulic px, I have no:
- Flap Movement
- Landing GR normal extension
- Anti-skid
- Power Brakes
- Speed Brakes (they’ll blow down)
BONUS: Increase your 30 Flap TOLD distance by 90%
(DO NOT DO THIS FOR DUAL GENERATOR FAILURE)
Can I File There?

Runway (6000'x100' and GIANT Report) Approaches? Towered? P-Field (DAMIECW) Alternate - Do I need one? Would this one qualify? Weather? TOLD? Trouble T?
Do I Need an Alternate?

Weather below 2000 + 3 (incl TEMPO) +/-1hr
(AETC 1500 + 3 ETE + 2 hours home field… IP)
Winds out of limits +/-1hr
Radar Required on all compatible approaches
RVSM required to get there (AETC)
Unmonitored NAVAIDS (A N/A)
No Weather
When to file IFR
Hint: ME WANA-P
Max Extent possible
Weather does not permit VFR flight
Airspace (ie Class A) requires IFR
Night operations
Airspeed in excess of 180 ktas within federal airways
Practice Instrument Approaches will be flow under an IFR clearance, unless waived IAW the 202v3
IFR Destination Filing Requirements
- Prevailing weather for ETA +/- 1 hr must be at or above lowest compatible published landing mins
- Straight-ins, sidesteps must meet required visibility mins
- Circling, forecast weather must meet BOTH ceiling and prevailing visibility mins
- If there is no compatible published approach, pilots may file to a point served by a published approach where forecast wx allows a composite IFR/VFR flight plan to the destination
Boost Pump Purposes
Boost Pump Purposes:
- start
- crossfeed
- wing to feed tank transfer
- backup to primary jet pumps
