What is acne vulgaris?

Disorder of the pilosebaceous glands whereby excessive sebum is produced which can result in infection/colonisation by proprionibacterium acne.

A
Greasy skin. Often adolescents Comedomes: open (black) and closed (white) papules pustules Nodules Cysts With scarring

A
Acne rosacea

Management of acne vulgarise?
A
Topical:
- Benzoyl peroxide
- antibiotics - erythromycin
- retinoids
Systemic
- Antibiotics - tetracycline (1st), erythromycin (2nd)
- oral Isotretinoin
- Antiandrogens: Contraceptive pill (dianette)

What are the side affects of oral isotretinoin?
A
- Dry skin
- Deranged LFTs
- Increased triglycerides
- Hair thinning
