Define an acid.
An acid is a substance that produces hydrogen ions when dissolved in water.
What are some unreactive metals
Copper, silver, gold, platinum
What are some reactive metals
Sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium
Define a salt.
A salt is an ionic compound formed when the hydrogen ion of an acid is replaced by a metallic ion or an ammonium ion.
Define base.
A base is a metal oxide or hydroxide that reacts with an acid to produce a salt and water only.
Define alkali.
An alkali is a soluble base which dissolves in water to produce OH- ions.
