Hyperkalaemia in acidosis, two examples

  • Increased H+ in ECF, due to lowered bicarb (diarrhoea), cellular buffering occurs, where H+ is exchanged for K+ and Na+
  • For DKA, lactic acid, intracellular acid is made, and freely diffuses out of cell. Ineffective Na+/K+ ATPase increases potassium in ECF thus
