an accident is a physical factor that happens unexpectedly.
what is an injury?
an injury comes from an accident, often affecting a persons health and wellbeing in the short or long term.
what types of ilnesses can accidents or injuries cause?
acute, chronic illnesses
what are examples of acute injuries?
broken bones, minor burns, cuts and sprains
how can you treat acute injuries?
broken bones- immobilisation in a plaster cast, sometimes after surgery.
minor burns- regular changes of dressings.
cuts- dressings and sometimes stitches.
sprains- RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation)
what are the negative affects of acute injuries?
effects on personal health and wellbeing, can be pain or immobility.
what is meant by a chronic injury?
repetitive trauma to the tendons, bones and joints, , causing a revaluate towards life.
how can you manage chronic injuries?
provide yourself with appropriate support, adapt to long-term problems, learn new skills/hobbies, begin new career.
what are the intellectual affects of experiencing a chronic injury?
brain damage, concentration and memory problems, missed education.
what are the physical affects of experiencing a chronic injury?
loss of mobility, loss of sight, scarring.
what are the emotional affects of experiencing a chronic injury?
depression, poor self concept, stress.
what are the social affects of experiencing a chronic injury?
loss of independence, social isolation, inability to work.
