Stave 4:
‘The Phantom slowly, gravely, silently approached him… Scrooge bent down upon his knee.’

The final ghost resembles the Grim Reaper and human’s fear of death. It cannot speak just as the future cannot speak for us but can reveal what could happen. Scrooge must now lead his final stage of redemption - his humility shows he wants to learn. Structurally it appears at the end of Stave 3 as speed builds towards Scrooge’s final redemption.

Stave 4:
“I am prepared to bear you company, and do it with a thankful heart.”

Scrooge’s change of attitude - he is regretful of the way he has been and states he will change both his attitude towards people and Christmas.

Stave 4:
Two business colleagues: “It’s likely to be a very cheap funeral,” said the same speaker; for upon my life I don’t know of anybody to go to it.”

They are acting shallow, just like Scrooge had been. They are not upset by his death, but only discuss the money associated with the funeral, showing that even people that knew Scrooge still only associated him with wealth and money.

Stave 4:
Scrooge on what he has learnt: “I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.”

Talking about the spirits - they have affected the way in which he thinks. They have taught him how to treat people and to honour Christmas - we find out it works when we see his epiphany at the end of the novella.
