Favoring the interests of native born people over foreign born people.
Nativism
This was the flowering of African - American society in the arts and literature. This began in NYC and helped to bring attention to the talents of black Americans.
The Harlem Renassiance
This was the time during the 1920´s in which the public had a fear of a potential communist takeover. Many gov leaders were arrested b/c it was feared that they were communist.
The red scare
These two men were Italian immigrants who were also anarchists. They were arrested, convicted and put to death for robbery and murder. Their arrest and conviction was a result of nativist fear of immigrants.
Sacco and Vanzeth
This is a theory that is based on the belief that the origin of man is that of the Biblical account recorded in the book of Genesis.
Creation Science (Creationism)
This is a theory that all species developed from earlier forms of life and developed gradually over time. The person that developed this theory was Charles Darwin.
Evolution
This writer coined the term the ¨Jazz Age¨ to describe the 1920´s. Two of his most famous books were: This side of Paradise and The Great Gatsby.
F. Scott Fitzgerald
This man was a national hero. He made the 1st non-stop flight over the Atlantic Ocean. The name of his plane was the ¨Spirit of St. Louis
Charles Lindbergh
Set of prinicples that granted men more freedoms then women. Women were often required to stricter standards of behavior than men.
Double Standard
This was a Protestant religous movement that is grounded in the belief that the Bible is infalliable and literally true. This movement was very popular in the south during the 1920´s
Fundementalism
This man was the most famous defense attorney of the day. He defended John Scopes on the Scopes trial.
Clarence Darrow
This was a famous court case in which John Scopes was put in trial for challenging a Tennessee law that forbade the teaching of Evolution. The court case took place in Dayton, Tennessee in 1925.
The scopes trial
This was a name given to free-thinking young women who embraced new fashions and urban attitudes that became prevalent in the 1920´s
Flappers
This system established the maximun number of people that could enter the U.S. form each foreign country. The goal was to reduce the immigrants from E and S Europe.
Quota system
Alchol is forbidden from being sold, manufactured, and transported in the U.S.
