ACBT AND GAP Flashcards
what are the three key phases in ACBT?
breathing control (relaxed tidal breathingL
LTEEs (active secretion mobilisation)
forced expiration technique (FET) (HUFF)
what phase goes first in tx?
breathing control always
what is breathing control
normal tidal breathing to promote relaxation and prevent hyperventilation
lower thoracic expansion aims
LTEEs aim to actively increase lung volume above Vt
promote airflow through collateral ventilation
enhance alveolar interdependence (no collapse of alveoli)
results in mobilised secretions and re expanded lung tissue
what can you add to LTEEs?
inspiratory hold, as well as sniff
Pores of Kohn
small fenestrations that allow comms between neighbouring alveoli
what are the other two channels called?
channels of lambert and martin
Forced Expiration technique
combination of 1-2 forced exp huff and bc
what does huff do
produces dynamic compression of airways proximal to equal pressure point
repetition of FET causes
facilitation of movement of bronchial secretions towards mouth therefore clearance
huff mechanics
performed at low lung volume will facilitate clearance from more distal airways
performed at high lung volume will facilitate clearance from the more proximal airways
name the positions of ease
high side lying
forward lean sitting
forward lean standing
effects of breathing control
promote relaxation
prevent hyperventilation
assist dyspnoea tolerance
