ACARS Flashcards
ACARS meaning?
Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System
Data link system which sends information between the aircraft, and the airline ground base
A digital system that operates using VHF communications equipment
ACARS
What is the American Primary Channel?
131.550MHz
What is Air Canada Frequency?
131.475MHz
ACARS two modes.
demand mode and polled mode
What is demand mode?
Allows the flight crew or airborne equipment initiate communications.
What is polled mode?
Operates only when interrogated by the ground facility.
Provides cost-effective, highly reliable data link service throughout the world.
Primary technology behind ACARS used for airline operational control.
GLOBALink/VHF
Expands the coverage area of GLOBALink/VHF to the remotest regions of the world, including polar operations above 80° north latitude, where satellite coverage is not possible.
GLOBALonk/HF
It provides tremendous user flexibility, including complete freedom of choice in aircraft and ground display systems, avionics, and applications.
VHF Digital Link Mode 2 (VDLM2 )
ACARS inputs that provides information such as:
- air data
- navigation
- engine instrumentation
Digital Flight Data Acquisition Unit (DFDAU)
This may be connected to the ACARS permitting:
Flight Plan updates
Predicted wind data
Takeoff data
Position reports
Flight Management Computer (FMC)
