Ac3.3 Flashcards
What are the limitations of the prison service?
A lack of resources- prevents rehabilitation, if funding is low it can affect staff levels and workload, effecting job efficiency.
Recidivism- ‘Rate of reoffending’ proves that prison is ineffective and not a deterrent. It doesn’t fulfil its aims. More offenders leads to overcrowding= riots, hygiene problems
What are the limitations of the police service?
Civil Liberties- the police can’t exert social control (due process).
Budget cuts- staff levels impacted, increasing workload, leading to inefficient jobs/works.
National vs Local policy- police feel stretched impacting staff moral or makes the public feel neglected = unreliable statistics.
Crimes committed by moral imperative- creates a clash of conscience.
What are the limitations of Charities and Pressure Groups?
- Limited power; limited access i.e funding issues
- People may not engage with them
- Voluntary: people can leave whenever they want to.
