What are the aims of “retribution”?
A
To punish offenders to the level which is deserved

What are the aims of “rehabilitation”
A
To alter the offender’s mindset to prevent them from reoffending in the future.

What are the aims of “deterrence”?
A
To dissuade the offender, or anyone in society from committing crimes through fear of punishment.

What is “incapacitation”?
A
A sentence of the court which prevents further reoffending. This could include a term of imprisonment.

What are the aims of “reparation”?
A
To ensure that the defendant is paying back to the victim or society for their wrongdoings.

What are the aims of “denunciation”?
A
To show the offender that society disapproves of their behaviour and that it is unacceptable conduct.
