What is the crime control model?
A
- Aims to deal with criminal cases quickly and effectively.
- Aims to punish and prevent offenders
- Zero tolerance approach (Right realism - blames individual and favours police power)
- Protects rights of victim not offender
- Doesn’t address causes of crime or deterrence.
- Functionalism = punishment reinforces society’s model boundaries.

What is the due process Model?
A
- Focuses on innocent until proven guilty
Police powers should be limited - Promotes fairness and protects defendants legal rights
- Investigations should be thorough to avoid miscarriage of justice
- Left realism ( blames institution and argues oppressive policing makes people unlikely to abide by law)
