AC1.2 Exam Practice Flashcards

1
Q

Discuss the relationship between the police and agencies of formal punishment (6 marks)

A

In order for criminal justice to work fairly and clearly, the interconnected organisations and agencies work together. Law enforcement, brought on by the police, is followed by the courts deciding the outcome of cases, and then punishments of convicted offenders, which is controlled by the prison and probation service. The police work with the probation service by arresting any prisoners that have recalled to prison after breaching the terms of their licence. After the passing of Sarah’s Law, the police now work with the prison and probation service in monitoring and managing the list of child sex offenders. The prisons, in return, help facilitate interviews with prisoners involved in ongoing police investigations and help with liaising when a prisoner is set to go on probation. The probation service works alongside these actions by supervising those who are released on licence.
