What will a half wave rectifier do?
A
It will conduct for half a period since it will only provide a path for the positive part of the AC signal.

What is the average and peak voltage from a halfwave rectifier?

Peak = 1.414Vac Average = 0.45Vac

What will a full wave rectifier do?
A
It will conduct for the full period because it provides a path for both the positive and negative parts of the AC signal to flow.

A
To smooth the output voltage we use an LC filter.

It is the periodic variation in voltage after rectification
