internal forms of social control

  1. internalisation of social rules and morality, most of the time we know we shouldn’t do something, without someone telling us not to. we regulate and control our own behaviour which comes from our moral conscience/code.
    THEORY; skinners rewards and sanctions pos n neg reinforcement.
    THEORY; bandeau’s social learning theory, bobo doll vicarious rewards.
  2. tradition and culture, the way we get our internal set of moral principles. e.g religion/tradition we grew up with. e.g 10 commandments; chris and jews. muslim halal.
    belonging to a community you don’t want to break the cultural norms because of the self control that comes with fear of how they’ll judge you.
  3. Rational ideology, set of beliefs that guide and influence our decision making and behaviour. through, upbringing, parental influence.
    start of as forces separate to yourself and then you gradually internalise them through socialisation.
