Absence Of Retreival Cues Flashcards
What does the retrieval failure due to the absence of cues theory suggest about forgetting?
-A cue is a trigger that allows us to access and recall information. When the use is present during the time of learning and storing the information it also must be present during the time of recall.
Wo types of forgetting occurs according to this theory:
- Context dependant failure
- State dependant failure
What is context dependant failure?
Forgetting occurs due to external retrieval cues (environment) outside the body Are not present during the time of recall that were present during the time of encoding the memory.
What is State Dependant failure?
-Forgetting occurs when internal cues in the body are not present during the time of recall that were present during the time of encoding.
AO3 for absence of retrieval cues
- Abernathy/Classroom and teacher, context dependant failure
- Carter and Cassady list of words on drugs or not/ 4 conditions, state dependant failure
- Divers list of words in 4 conditions, 40% lower if context was not the same
