Encompasses specific biological requirements for water, oxygen, sleep, sex, etc., they are needs rather than drives because their satisfactions are the ultimate goal
Physiological Needs
Include security, protection, stability, structure, law and order, and freedom from fear and chaos.
Safety Needs
Orient the person toward affectionate relations with people and a sense of pace in family and groups
Belongingness and love needs
These are personal desires for adequacy, mastery, competence, achievement, confidence, independence and freedom
Esteem Needs
The desire for self-fulfillment. The tendency for one to become more of what one is presently is, to become everything that one is capable of being

Deficiency Needs
People are motivated by the need for beauty and aesthetically pleasing experiences
Aesthetic Needs
A desire to know, solve mysteries, to understand and to be curious
Cognitive Needs
Results only in stagnation and pathology whether or not they are satisfied. These needs are unproductive, perpetuate an unhealthy style of life and have no value in the striving for self-actualization
