Limitations to screening (4)

A
  1. Does not prevent all cases of cervical cancer..
  2. Some women will still develop cervical cancer despite regular screening.
  3. Some abnormal cell changes will be missed
  4. Screening will not find every abnormal cell change

  1. Sometimes they do. not look different to normal cells 2. There may be very few abnormal cells in a sample
  2. The person reading your sample may miss the abnormality

  1. Normal. - no cause for concern
  2. Unsatisfactory - not enough cells in the screening sample
  3. Can’t be processed - vial may have been damaged or expired
  4. Contact your GP/nurse - ma be abnormalities, smear taker will have more details
