christians stance on abortion
Belief in the Sanctity of Life
Christians believe that all human life is sacred because it is created by God therefor should be protected till natural death
Many Christians believe that human life begins at conception, not birth.
From this view, abortion is seen as the intentional ending of an innocent human life—equivalent to taking a life.
Christians believe that every human being is created with intention and purpose by God.
Abortion is sometimes seen as interfering with God’s plan for a child’s life.
what circumstances would some christians feel abortion is acceptable
case of rape - trauma of rape its often seen a level of compassion should be shown to victim however some may see it as “evil shouldn’t be treated with more evil”
severe disability of the baby - if an abnormality is seen and it would leave the child with a life of pain it would be the most moral thing to prevent suffering
the mothers life is at risk - if its between the baby life or mothers its obvious to pick the mother
what is the secular view on abortion
Bodily Autonomy
A core secular argument is that every person has the right to control their own body. the phrase “my body my choice” is a common slogan used in this principle
Separation of Church and State
In secular societies, laws are made based on reason, ethics, and public interest, not religious doctrine.
Practical and Compassionate Reasoning
Many support abortion access out of compassion for real-life situations:
Risk to the mother’s health
Cases of rape or incest
Severe fetal abnormalities
what is personhood
when does a life, deserving protection begin
when does a christian believe personhood begins
The belief is that from the moment of conception (when the sperm fertilizes the egg), a new human life with a soul is created and must be protected.
when do atheists believe personhood begins
Many secular thinkers consider viability—the point when a fetus can survive outside the womb—as a key marker. 22-24 weeks others may argue it begins at birth
