Definition of acute uterine bleeding
An episode of bleeding in a woman of reproductive age, who is not pregnant, that is, in the opinion of the provider, of sufficient quantity to require immediate intervention to prevent further blood loss
Definition of chronic abnormal uterine bleeding
Bleeding from the uterin corpus, that is abnormal in duration, volume and/or frequency and has been present for the majority of the last 6 months

- malignancy and hyperplasia
- coagulopathy
- ovulatory dysfunction

Screening for detection of coagulation disorders
- heavy menstrual bleeding since menarche
One of the following
- postpartum haemorrhage
- surgical-related bleeding
- bleeding associated with dental work
Two or more of:
- bruising 1-2 times per month
- epistaxis 1-2 times per month
- frequent gum bleeding
- family history of bleeding symtpoms
