Abnormal Pupil Flashcards
What are two main areas that cause an abnormal pupil?
In the iris
In the PLR pathway
What leads to AUM in cats?
Benign melanosis leads to anterior uveal melanosis
Is metasasis common or quick of AUM?
Uncommon and slow - happens years later
What does dyschoria mean?
abnormal shape of pupil
Apart from tumours what other things can cause PLR abnormalities?
Synechia
Glaucoma
PRA
What area of the visual pathway does the menace response test that the PLR does not?
The Cortex
What is a marcus gunn sign?
When a pupil does not dilate as much when a light is swung from the unaffected eye to the affected eye
What is a marcus gunn sign caused by?
A lesion between the retina and the optic chiasm or severe retianl disease
What can affect the PLR?
Catecholamine release
iris problems - such as senile iris atrophy/posterior synichea
What kind of blindness happens when the lesion is past the optic chiasm?
central blindness

Which optic tract does the left visual field get seen by?
right
Which fibres pick up the left visual field?
the medial left
lateral right
