Respiratory acidosis caused by
COPD
decompensation of other resp conditions
Meuromuscular disease
Obesity hypoventilation syndrome
sedative drugs: benzodiazepines, opiate OD
Respiratory alkalosis causes
anxiety leading to hyperventilation
pulmonary embolism
salicylate poisoning (early)
CNS disorders: stroke, subarachnoid haemorrhage, encephalitis
altitude
pregnancy
