FiO2 = fraction of inspired oxygen
PaO2 = partial pressure of O2 in the blood
SaO2 = proportion of oxygenated haemoglobin in the blood
CaO2 = amount of oxygen in arterial blood in ml

Indicates increased acid production or ingestion

A
Decreased acid excretion or production of HCO3-
Gastrointestinal loss of Hco3- (diarrhoea, ileostomy, colostomy)
Renal tubular acidosis
Addisons disease
