Type 1 Respiratory Failure
Hypodermic respiratory failure.

Causes of Type 1 Respiratory Failure
Pneumonia, pulmonary oedema & acute respiratory distress syndrome
Type 2 Respiratory failure
Hypercapnic Respiratory failure
Carbon dioxide level high & near normal or not enough oxygen
Causes of Type 2 respiratory failure
Blockage or narrowing of the airways, COPD, Drug overdose, neuromuscular disease, bronchial asthma
Normal Base Excess Range
-2 to +2
Respiratory Acidosis
Low PH, High PCO2, Normal HC03
Metabolic Acidosis
Low PH, Low HC03, Normal C02
Respiratory Alkalosis
High PH, Low PC02, Normal HC03
