Aberrant Immune Response Flashcards
What is type I hypersensitivity?
The culprits for this hypersensitivity are IgE and Mast Cells.
What is type II hypersensitivity?
Antibody-mediated immune reaction in which antibodies (IgG or IgM) are directed against cellular or extracellular matrix antigens, resulting in cellular destruction, functional loss, or tissue damage.
What is type III hypersensitivity?
A type of immune response in which antigen-antibody complexes accumulate in the tissues and cause inflammation and tissue damage
What is type IV hypersensitivity?
occur in response to contact with certain allergens resulting in what is called contact dermatitis or in response to some diagnostic procedures as in the tuberculin skin test.
What is Goodpasture’s syndome?
A disease that affects lungs and kidneys.
- It causes Inflammation and bleeding in the lungs, and hematuria (blood in urine).
- Autoimmune antibodies attack Collagen IV in lungs.
What is Marfan syndrome?
Affects connective tissues of skin, bone, blood vessels and many other organs and tissues.
- Caused by mutations in the fibrillin gene.
- Causes heart defects & vision problems.
What is Alport Syndome?
- The basement membrane in the glomerulus of the kidney forms a part of the selectively permeable glomerular filtration barrier
- Mutations in collagen IV genes
- Dysfunctional Collagen IV → dysfunctional BM → blood and protein in the urine
What is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
- Affects connective tissues of skin, bone, blood vessels etc.
- Mutations in Collagen genes → hypermobility due to very stretchy skin.
