Right Lower Quadrant
cecum , appendix , right ureter , right reproductive organs (ovary, fallopian tube, spermatic cord), small/large intestine
Left Lower Quadrant
left ureter , left reproductive organs (fallopian tube, ovary, spermatic cord) , sigmoid colon , small/large intestine
Quadrant Planes
- median plane (vertical)
- transverse or transumbilical plane (horizontal)
- intercepts at belly button
Regional Planes
- 2 mid-saggital midclavicular planes
- 2 transverse planes
- subcostal plane : superior, below ribs
- Inter-tubercular plane : inferior, hips

“hypo” = below, under
“chondriac” = cartilage of ribs

Right Lumbar Region
- between ribs and hips on side
- parts of ascending colon, right kidney, small intestine
Right Iliac Region
- top of hip bone on side
- parts of appendix, cecum, ascending colon, small intestine
Left Hypochondriac Region

- between hips and ribs on side

- consists of bladder, parts of sigmoid colon, small intestine, reproductive organs
