Young lady with 3 month hx of abdo pain, n/v, diarrhoea. What are your top 4 differentials?
A
pregnancy, hyperthyroidism, T1D, laxative abuse. (gastritis wouldn’t usually present with diarrhoea, IBD would not typically present with n/v)

Name drugs which can causes constipation
A
ondansetron, morphine derivatives, ferrous fumarate, chlorpheniramine

Name laxatives and their MOA
A
Enema- locally applied, stimulates emptying of rectum
Senna- stimulates gut lining to increase motility
Lactulose- osmotic laxative

List three red flags for abdominal pain
A
sudden onset abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, change in bowel habit >3weeks, SoB, dysphagia, fever, persistent unexplained vomiting
