Flank ecchymosis secondary to hemorrhage

Umbilical ecchymosis sceondary to hemorrhage

5-34 clicks per minute
What is the expected liver span?
6-12 cm
What is the expected spleen span?
Ribs 6-10 mid-axillary line, left
What is the classification of light palpation?
1 cm depth
What is the classification of moderate palpation?
2-3 cm depth
What is the classification of Deep Palpation?
> 3cm depth
What is Murphy’s Sign?
Palpate under the right costal margin; and observe for pain/sudden stop in inspiratory effort
What is Courvoisier’s Sign?
It is an enlarged non tender gallbladder secondary to pancreatic disease or cancer
What is an unexpected finding regarding the Abdominal Aorta pulsation?
Lateral protrusion; more than 3.0 cm in width
What classifies decreased bowel sounds?
None for one minute; could be d/t post-surgical ileus and peritonitis
What classifies absent bowel sounds?
None for > 2 minutes
Increased bowel sounds could be due to?
Diarrhea, early bowel obstruction
What do high pitched bowel sounds indicate?
Early intestinal obstruction
Where does one listen for a venous hum and what does it indicate?
Listen over the epigastric regions and umbilical regions; indicates increased collateral circulation between the portal and systemic venous systems
What does a protuberant abdomen that is tympanic thoughout indicate?
Possible intestinal obstruction
What does RUQ visceral pain indicate?
Liver distension against the capsule; with alcholic hepatitis
What does Periumbilical Visceral Pain indicate?
Acute appendicitis (early)
What does a Irregular edge/nodules when palpating the liver indicate?
Hepatocellular Carcinoma
What does firmness/hardness when palpating the liver indicate?
Cirrhosis, amyloidosis, lymphoma
What physical exam finding would indicate Splenomegaly?
Dullness at the left mid axillary line
