Abdominal Cavity Flashcards
What are the meningies in the abdominal cavity called?
parietal
What organ does a fetal pig have but not a human
spiral colon, instead of the large intestine
what are the five lobes in the liver? (fetal pig)
right lateral, right central, left central, left lateral, and the caudate lobe.
what are the four lobes in the liver (human)
right, left, caudate, quadrate
where is the ileocecal valve?
Large intestine and allows digested foot to pass from the small intestine into the large intestine
Track for digestive system in both humans and fetal pigs
The diaphragm is first and in both humans and pigs it separates the thoracic and the abdominal cavity and assists with breathing by permitting inhalation and exhaltion. Next is the gall bladder which helps to produce bile in both humans and pigs. Then there is the stomach which mixes food with the bile. The small intestine then digests anything not previously digested from the stomach. Then its the large intestine which absorbs water, the pancreas which helps regulate hormone levels and blood sugar. Next comes the spleen that helps regulate the level of blood cells, the kidneys come next and help remove waste products/excess fluid from the body. Finally there is the urinary bladder which gets rid of fluid, the reproductive structures such as the urogenital system with the rectum getting rid of the waste products from the digestive tract.
where does the adrenal gland differ in fetal pigs and humans?
fetal pig: anterior end of the kidney human: cap on top of kidneys
esophagus
Located in the thoracic cavity and helps carry food from the oral cavity down into the abdominopelvic cavity.
duodenum
This is located in the small intestine and is found in the Epigastric region/Umbilical region. It helps to continue the movement/digestion of food from the bottom of the stomach into the opening of the small intestine.
jejunum
This is located in the small intestine and is found in the Left Upper Quadrant and is a continuation of the small intestine tract.
spiral colon
This is located in the large intestine in the Left Lower Quadrant and assists in the absorption of water functions of the large intestine.
fundus
This is located in the stomach in the epigastric region and is the dilated anterior portion of the stomach.
rugae
This is also located in the stomach in the epigastric region and is the folds of the stomach that help to churn and mix the food with the digestive juices.
pyloric sphincter
This is in the stomach in the Right Upper Quadrant and is at the posterior end of the stomach and works to regulate the release of partially digested food into the duodenum.
cardiac sphincter
This is in the stomach in the Right Upper Quadrant and works to control the enterance of food into the stomach from the esophagus.
