What are you looking for when inspecting a patients abdomen?
A
Contour, colour, symmetry, umbilical position, lesions, scars

What order must you complete the assessment in?
A
Inspection, auscultation, percussion and palpation

What are we listening for when auscultating? And how long do we listen for?
A
Active, Hyperactive, Hypoactive, Absent Sounds. Listen for 1 minute or until you hear something

What are we listening for when using percussion
A
Tympany (T for Tummy) through abdomen or dull (state position, over bone, over liver etc)

How deep do we palpate?
A
1cm light palpation
5-8 deep palpation

What are we feeling when palpating?
A
Masses, tenderness and facial expression
