What are the causes of AAA?
A
- Atherosclerosis (90%)
- smoking, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, DM - Mycotic infection
- Cystic medial necrosis
- Ehler-Danlos syndrome
- Arteritis

What are the complications of AAA?
A
- Aortic dissection - absent femoral pulse
- Embolism - digital infarct
- Spinal artery compression - myelopathy
- Renal artery compression (juxtarenal) - AKI

What are the examination findings/signs of AAA?
A
- Pulsatile mass in central abodmen, both vertically and horizontally
- Bruit
- Check for associated aneurysms in other arteries
- Carotid, femoral, poplital, dorsalis pedis
