Abdominal and Pelvic trauma Flashcards
What anatomical injury shoudl always be suspected in blunt trauma (broad area)
abdominal and pelvic
What type of bleed may be present in those with decelerating injuries of blunt forces to the back
retroperitoneal
How do you assess for pelvic #
if no obvious / clear signs can gently palpate pelvis but do not manipulate it
can dislodge clots and cause +++ bleed
What is the management of pelvic #
if unstable: angiograohy or surgical if stable can trial conservative
When might a retrograde urogram/urethrogram be warranted
if patient cannot void
if in pelvic binder
blood at urinary meatus
scrotal haematoma
perineal ecchymosis
If a patient is persistantly unstable with suspected intraabdominal bleed or has visible penetrating wound / free air on axr what is the most improtant step in their mx
laparotomy
If a person has been identified on 2ry survey to have a solid organ injury ie liver but they are haemodynamically stable what is the management
observation
what injury is usually also associated with pancreatic injury
vertebral column
when might duodenal injury occur
unrestrained front on impact
