2) interspinous plane (spans horiztonally between the two ASIS) or the line connecting the tubercles of the iliac crest (the transtubular crest)
3) upper margin of the diaphragm
How do you find the transplyoric plane?
halfway between the jugular notch and the symphysis pubis. OR halfway between the typhoid process and the umbilicus
What rib does the transpyloric plane run with?
9th
What vertebrae is the transtubular crest at?
L5
What are the vertical planes used to designate the nine regions of the abdomen?
1) mid-clavicular lines (passes down to mid-inguinal point)
What are the abdominal regions between the upper margin of the diaphragm and the subcostal plane called?
right hypochondrium, epigastric, left hypochondriac
What are the abdominal regions between the subcostal plane and the transtubular plane called?
right lumbar, umbilical region, and left lumbar
What are the abdominal regions below the transtubular plane called?
left and right inguinal regions, and the (middle) pubic region
What are the contents of the right hypochondrium?

the spleen (not palpable if normally sized)
What are the contents of the epigastrium?
the stomach and part of the duodenum
What can be found where the transpyloric plane meets the mid-clavicular line?
