Organs between the body wall and parietal peritoneum
Retroperitoneal
Double layer of peritoneum that occurs as a result of the invagination of the peritoneum by an organ
Mesentery
Double layered fold of peritoneum that passes from the stomach and proximal part of the duodenum to adjacent organs of the abdominal cavity
Omentum
Four layered peritoneal fold that hangs down like an apron from the greater curvature of the stomach
Greater omentum
Smaller double layered peritoneal fold that connects lesser curvature of stomach to the liver
Lesser Omentum
Connects large intestine to the abdominal wall
Mesocolon
Most external part of the gut wall
Serosa
Smooth muscle of the gut wall for peristalsis. Circular and longitudinal muscle
Muscularis externa
Connective tissue of the gut wall for neurovascular an immune system
Submucosa
Inner layer of gut wall. Epithelium
Mucosa
Contraction of circular muscles. Slows down chyme
Segmentation
Contraction of longitudinal muscle (waves). Moves food stuff along
Peristalsis
The act of swallowing
Deglutition
Rises to close off nasopharynx
Uvula (soft pallet)
Covers opening in the larynx when larynx rises
Epiglottis
