What organs are in the Right Upper Quadrant?
Liver, gallbladder, pylorus, duodenum, hepatic fixture of colon and head of the pancreas.
What abdominal structures are in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen?
Spleen, splenic flexure of colon, stomach, and body and tail of the pancreas
What abdominal structures are in the left lower quadrant?
Sigmoid colon, descending colon, and left ovary
What structures are in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen?
Cecum, appendix, ascending colon, terminal ileum, and right ovary
Patient comes in with chest or epigastric pain. The pain occurs after meals, its aggravated by lying down, bending over or physical activity. The patient feels relief with avoiding nicotine or chocolate. They also have wheezing and hoarseness. Whats the diagnosis?
GERD
Patient comes in complaining of epigastric pain that radiates to the back. The patient has a burning and aching pain thats intermittent. The patient also has nausea, vomiting and belching. What does the NP suspect?
Peptic ulcer disease and dyspepsia
Patient comes in complaining of a persistent slowly progressive pain. They cannot find any relief and are also experiencing weight loss, early satiety, and nausea. The pain is located in the distal stomach, “cardia” and GE junction. What do you suspect?
Gastric cancer
Patient comes in with peri umbilical pain that sometimes radiates to the RLQ. They describe the pain as worsening with movement with no alleviating factors. The patient also has nausea, and vomiting. What do you suspect?
Acute appendicitis
Patient comes in with steady, persistent aching pain. This pain is gradual with no relieving factors. The pain is located in the RUQ or epigastrium. It also radiates to the right shoulder. What do you suspect?
Acute cholecystitis
