Intrathoracic-life threatening hemorrhage: liver & spleen
True abdomen- infection, peritonitis, shock:intestines.
Retroperitoneal abdomen- severe hemorrhage os hidden; major blood vessels
What are the two main types of abdominal trauma
Blunt- most common
Penetrating- includes gunshots and stabbings
What is the concern for abdominal trauma?
Intrabadominal bleeds with hemorrhagic shock
Sepsis and or peritonitis

Direct compression of abdomen

Victorious fluid resuscitation can do more harm than good

Referred left posterior shoulder pain
Signs of liver injury?
Referred right posterior shoulder pain

Abdominal distension

How to manage eviscerations?
Do not push organs back into the abdomen
Gently over with moistened sterile gauze
If transport time is extended- apply. A non adherent material
How to manage an implied object?
do not remove the object
Gently stabilize the object
Avoid moving the object
How to manage a pelvic fracture?
Use a pelvic binder
Stabilize the pelvis
This decrease pelvic volume
