Rescue breathing
Call EMS
-Give 2 slow breaths (2 seconds/breath for adults, 1-1.5 seconds for children)
Pinch nose and let chest deflate between each breath
Check pulse
Continue 1 breath every 5 seconds or 1 breath every 3 seconds for children (if they aren’t breathing)
ABC’s
Airway (head tilt, chin lift)
Breathing (put ear near mouth and listen/feel for breath and watch victims chest for movement )
Circulation (Pulse)
Pulse rates
Feel for pulse for 5-10 seconds (if nothing, assume cardiac arrest)
-Normal adult: 60-100 beats/min
-Normal children: 80-100 beats/min
-Normal newborns: 100-150 beats/min
RECORD PULSE
*Also check skin condition, colour, temp, etc.
CPR for adults
Check responsiveness (5-10 seconds) “Are you okay?”
Check ABC’s
CALL EMS
Give 2 slow breaths (2 seconds per breath)
-15 compressions followed by 2 breaths (repeat 3 cycles)
Check ABC’s again and resume if need be
CPR for children/infants
Check responsiveness (5-10 seconds) “Are you okay?”
Check ABC’s
CALL EMS
Give 2 slow breaths (1.5 seconds per breath)
-5 compressions followed by 1 breath
*100 compressions/ minute at least (=20 cycles)
