What is AF?
Atrial fibrillation. A heart condition causing irregular or abnormally fast heart rate.
What is ADHD?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. A group of behavioural symptoms such as inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness
What is AIDS?
Acquired immunodeficiency disorder. The final stage of a HIV infection, caught by unprotected sex or sharing infected needles.
What is BMI?
Body mass index
What is COPD?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. A collection of lung diseases including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic obstructive airways disease.
What is CNS?
Central nervous system
What is CVD?
Cardiovascular disease. A disease of the heart or blood vessels.
What is an ECG?
Electrocardiogram. It records the electrical activity of the heart.
What is GI?
Gastrointestinal. Bowels disorders
What is HF?
Heart failure.
What is HRT?
Hormone replacement therapy. A treatment used to relieve symptoms of the menopause.
What is IHD?
Ischaemic heart disease.
What is INR?
International normalised ratio. A way of measuring how fast your blood clots. Normal ratio is between 0.8-1.2
What is MI?
Myocardial infarction. A heart attack
What is VF?
Ventricular fibrillation. The main cause of cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death. The ventricular muscle fibres contract randomly.
