What are the 4 DSM V criteria for Autism spectrum disorder ?
- Persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts. Child must struggle in all aspects of life.
- Restricted repetitive patterns of behaviour, or intrests or activities.
- Symptoms must be present in the early developmental period.
- Symptoms must cause sugnificant impairmement in social, occupational or important areas of current functioning.
- Intellectual disability or global developmental delay may co occur, to diagnose autism and illectual disability, social communication should be below expected for developmental level.
What are the two domains of ASD?
- Domain: Social interaction and communication ?
- Domain: Restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour.
What are some common symptoms of of Social interaction and communication?
- Poor eye contact
- Limited/no conversational skills
- Doesnt share enjoyment
- Inability to express/identify emotions
- Difficulty making friends
- Deficit in verbal/non verbal communication, vocal/speech/gestures.
What are common symptoms of restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour?
- infelxible adherence to routines
- Inappropriate play (eg. spinning wheels on a car rather than driving it)
- Inapproprate vocalizations (eg. making noises)
- Repetitive motor mannerisms (eg. flapping hands)
- Obsessive interest in particular topic
- Abnormal level of sensitivity to or intrest in sensory aspects of enviroment. (light, texture, pain, temperature.)

What does ABA stand for and define it
Applied behavioural analysis
The application of principle pf behviour to ussues that are socially important to produce practical change.
What are the core principles of ABA
If a behaviour is followed by a desirable consequence, that behaviour will occur more often in the future.
If a behaviour is not followed by a desirable consequence or is followed by an undesirable consequence, that behaviour will occur less often in the future.
What are the 3 term contingency?
A- antecendent, Any event or stimulus that occurs IMMEDIATLY prior to the behaviour
B- behaviour, Anything the child does
C- Consequence, Any event or stimulus that occurs IMMEDIATLY AFTER the behaviour.
