a03 Flashcards
weakness-reductionist
can be argued that the biological approach is reductionist
this is because it reduces complex bheaviour down to simple components e.g genes or neurontransmitters
means that all other possible infleunces on behaviour are ignored
weakness-determinist view of behaviour
suggests human behaviour is governed by internal, biological causes over which we have no control
this has implications of the legal system and wider society
weakness-causal conclusions
offers explanations for mental illness in terms of the action of neurotransmitters in the brain
limitation is a biological approach as discovering an association between two factors does not mean that one is a cause
weakness-determinsitic
suggests human behaviour is governed by internal, biological causes over which we have no control
this has implications for teh legal system
