biologically male with the appearance of males and have an extra X chromosome
what are the physical characteristics of klinfelters syndrome?
reduced body hair breast development long gangly limbs underdeveloped genitals co-ordination and clumsiness
what are the psychological characteristics of KF
poorly developed language and reading acitivity
passive, shy and lack intrest in sexual activity
do not respond well to stress
What is turners syndrome?
1/5000 females. Caused by an absence of 2 X chromosomes so they have 45 chromosomes
What are the physical characteristics of turners syndrome?
No menstrual cycle Ovaries fail to develop Do not develop breasts shield chest Webbed neck
Psychological characteristics of turners syndrome?
Higher than average reading
Performance on spatial visual memory and maths is lower
Socially immature
Evaluation
Nature / nurture debate
By comparing these individuals with people in the normal population we can see the psychological and behavioural differences
We could infer the differences are biological and as a result of chromosomal structure
Evaluation point 1 (environmental)
Environmental and social influences are more responsible for the behaviour differences in Individuals
It is wrong to assume differences are due to nature
Evaluation point 2 (individual differences)
Individuals who look different are more likely to be treated different
