A Theodicy + The Process Theodicy Flashcards
It is an argument that suggests God is right to allow evil and suffering because?
in some way they’re necessary and essential
A theodicy must not
- Qualify God
- deny the reality of evil and suffering
- suggest that the only option is to give up faith
What must a theodicy offer?
a convincing reason why a better state of affairs prevails by God not removing evil than if he did
What is the process theodicy?
A theodicy which suggests that God is not omnipotent and did not create the universe
What does the process theodicy say about the universe and God
The universe is an uncreated process of which God is himself a part
- God is part of the universe and is bound by natural laws
Why is the process theodicy not a true theodicy?
Because it demands a qualification of or questions God’s nature (and to be a theodicy is cannot do this)
Who does this theodicy appeal to though?
to those who do not feel compelled to preserve the God of classical theism with all his attributes
What is a strength of this theodicy
It frees God from being the responsibility of evil whilst allowing him to be involved with the world and human activity
