A: Particles Flashcards
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from a high to a low concentration
What happens if you heat a solid?
The particles vibrate faster and faster until the force of attraction is so weak that they melt lol
What is an isotope?
An atom with the same atomic number but different mass numbers
What is Carbon-14?
A radioactive isotope with an unstable nucleus. It gives off radiation used in carbon dating.
What is the atomic number?
The amount of protons in a nucleus
What does the group of an element tell you?
How many electrons are on the outer level
What is the mass number?
Number of protons plus number of neutrons
What is a covalent bond?
When a pair of electrons is shared between two atoms
What kind of bond is Hydrogen?
Covalent bond. (Dot and cross)
What does diatomic mean and what molecules are diatomic?
HOBrFINCl
-diatomic means they contain two atoms
