A&P Review - Cardiovascular System Flashcards
P wave
represents depolarization of atria
1st phase of cardiac cycle
normal length: 0.08-0.1 second
smooth and round shape
Q wave
beginning of QRS complex
negative wave
normal range: <0.03 seconds
R wave
predominant, positive part of ECG complex
S wave
negative wave after R wave in ECG complex
T wave
represents ventricular repolarization (recovery of the ventricle)
longer than QRS complex
smooth and round shape
T wave
represents ventricular repolarization (recovery of the ventricle)
longer than QRS complex
smooth and round shape
U wave
small wave after T wave also representing ventricular repolarization
PR Interval
beginning of atrial depolarization to beginning of ventricular depolarization
normal range: 0.12-0.20 seconds
abnormal ranges: <0.12 = accelerated conduction; >0.20 = first degree heart block
decreases in length as HR increases
QRS Complex
made up of the Q, R, S waves representing activation of both L and R ventricles (depolarization)
normal range: 0.06-0.1 seconds
abnormal range: >0.1 = impaired ventricular conduction
