A/P Epithelial Tissue Content Flashcards
Where is simple squamous found?
lining blood vessels, lining alveoli of lungs, kidney tubules, serous membranes
What is the function of simple squamous?
diffusion, filtration, protect against friction (by secreting fluid)
Where is simple cuboidal found?
glands, surface of ovaries, lining of lungs, kidney tubules
What is the function of simple cuboidal?
secrete substances, move mucus-containing particles, allow active transport and facilitated diffusion
Where is simple columnar found?
lining of stomach and intestines, glands, lungs (bronchioles), uterus and uterine tubes
What is the function of simple columnar?
secretion and absorption, move mucus-containing particles, helps move oocyte through uterine tubes
Where is pseudostratified columnar found?
lining nasal cavity, nasal sinuses, trachea, lungs
What is the function of pseudostratified columnar?
make and secrete mucus, move mucus-containing particles
Where is stratified squamous found?
skin, cornea of eye, mouth, esophagus, vagina
What is the function of stratified squamous?
protect against abrasion, barrier to infection, prevent water loss
Where is transitional tissue found?
lining of bladder, ureters, urethra
What is the function of transitional tissue?
accommodate fluctuations in volumes of liquid; protect against damage due to urine
What tissue is a single layer of thin, flat cells?
simple squamous
What tissue is a single layer of cube-like cells?
simple cuboidal
What tissue is a single layer of column cells
simple columnar
