A/P Connective Tissue Content Flashcards
Where is bone found?
in all bones of the body (ex: femur, humerus, skull)
Where is blood found?
within blood vessels and the heart
Where is elastic cartilage found?
external ear
Where is fibrocartilage found?
intervertebral disks, pubic symphysis, articulation disks of bones (ex: meniscus of knee)
Where is hyaline cartilage found?
costal cartilage of ribs, rings in respiratory tract, nasal cartilage, covering ends of bones (called articular cartilage), in growth plates, in embryonic skeleton
Where is adipose tissue found?
under skin, around organs, in breasts, in cavities within bone
Where is areolar tissue found?
under epithelial tissue, as a backing between glands, muscles, nerves, attaching skin to underlying tissue
Where is dense regular tissue found?
tendons and ligaments
Where is dense irregular tissue found?
in dermis of skin, making up organ capsules (strong membranes)
What is the function of dense regular and irregular?
able to withstand great pulling forces in the direction of the fiber
What is the function of areolar?
provide loose packing, support, and nourishment for the structures it is associated with
What is the function of adipose?
energy storage (lipids), provides protection, heat insulator
What is the function of hyaline cartilage?
provides support and forms a smooth surface in joints, site for bone growth, forms most of embryonic skeleton
What is the function of fibrocartilage?
withstand great pressure
What is the function of elastic cartilage?
return to original shape when bent or compressed
